The 'Nice-Try'

For those of you that don't know, I work taking phone orders for a vitamin company. I enjoy my job and everyone here is nice. I do, however, occasionally run into customers that think they are 'entitled' to things. The word 'entitled' is an entirely different issue for me, but in this situation it never makes everyone happy.

I have people call in and think that if they are upset they can get their way. They are, for some reason, entitled to awards, reimbursements or free products just because they're upset. The only result of this behaviour is me losing my patience and resisting the urge to hang up the call. If you want to get something done maybe you should try being nice. Ever think of that?

Please remember that there are human beings on the other side of the line when you call. If you can, make your first try the nice-try

Unfortunately, the people that try to get free things by being mean are doing it for a reason: it works. The squeaky jerk gets the free stuff, or however the saying goes. It's how we work. Nice people don't get anything free because the people giving stuff out know that the nice people won't get them into trouble or make any raucus if they don't get what they want. Jerks scream and yell and tell managers and things like that... so they are given free stuff so they shut up. It's that simple.

Continue to resist. Fight the man--the mean man.
